November 20-23, 2019: Professor Marković’s visit to United States higher education institutions
Professor Predrag Marković, director of the Institute for Contemporary History, visited Boston (November 20-23, 2019) at the invitation of Harvard University. He delivered a lecture in a Cold War Seminar of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies. Under the chairmanship of Professor Mark Kramer he delivered a talk Sitting on the Wall during the Cold War: The Peculiar Case of Yugoslavia
. Marković also lectured on the perceptions of The Balkans: the First and the Last Europe in the William James Hall of the Harvard Sociology Department, at the event convoluted by Dr Danilo Madić, Marković took part in the Boston University undergraduate seminar of Dr Vladimir Petrović, where he engaged the students over the meaning and outreach on ideologies in the 21st century. Apart of the discussions regarding further cooperation with colleagues from Harvard and Boston University, Marković also opened such communication with Professors Gordana Rabrenović and Denis Sullivan from Northeastern University as well. Professor Markovic continued to the Annual Convention of The Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES), where he took part on a panel (with Vasily Kashin, from NRU Higher School of Economics, Sufian N. Zhemukhov from George Washington University and Emmanuel Bruno Dreyfus from Université Paris 2 Assas) dedicated to contemporary paramilitarism with a contribution on the role of paramilitary formations in the wars in former Yugoslavia. On the same conference he also chaired a panel dedicated to regional aspects of Russia’s resurgence as a military power on a global scene.
